About RestorationMatch

RestorationMatch (restorationmatchusa.com) is a referral service for homeowners with water, fire, mold or sewage damage. You call or tell us the job and the ZIP code, and we pass the request to one independent restoration company that has asked to receive work there.

What we are, and what we are not

We are not a restoration company: we employ no crews, hold no contractor license, set no prices and answer for no one's work. We also make no claim that any company we send a request to is licensed, insured, bonded or credentialed, so ask for the licenses your state requires and check them before the work starts.

The whole business model is that the company receiving your request pays us for it, and the how it works page walks through the details.

Why state by state

Restoration rules are state rules. States differ on whether the cleanup needs a license, on what a standard homeowners policy pays for flood and sewer backup, on claim deadlines and on who may negotiate a claim. A page that gets one of those wrong costs a reader money, so we open one state at a time and write each carefully.

A state's pages use its own statutes, its insurance regulator, its utilities' emergency numbers, and each city's own permit office and water or sewer pages where we could find them. A page says so when it came up empty.

Why the cost ranges say estimate

Where we found published national cost ranges, we show an estimate built from them, and beside it what the nearest federal occupation is paid and what regulators, FEMA and a trade body report about loss sizes. We have not collected quotes, so none of it is a price list. The editorial policy explains how the estimates are built and when they are re-checked.

Editorial standards

Every guide lists its sources, and a fact we could not source is left out. Rules about licenses, permits and claims change, so check with your state and your insurer before relying on any summary here. Read the editorial policy, and tell us if you find a mistake.
